I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. I have no particular political axe to grind. I am a citizen who of the United States, but I have dual citizenship. I serve a King and a kingdom that is seen in parts and at times and will one day be the kingdom in which righteousness reigns. Living in between these two worlds is not always easy but the gospel of Jesus brings sustaining hope for that "one day" when final restoration will take place and the King will make all things new. That, is change I can believe in.
I've been trying to put my finger on what it is that ultimately bothers me about Barack Obama's candidacy and now his future presidency. It is not just that he makes the typical promises of change (that's nothing new and definitely not unique among politicians) that will go unfulfilled. If anything, he's been extra good at that.
It is also not the policies he desires to see implemented that contradict my own set of values, both patriotic and Christian. Ultimately, it is that he promises (sincerely I believe) what he simply cannot deliver. Namely, changing the world. It cannot be done ...
